CHICAGO-- (April 30, 2012) Writer, poet, filmmaker and activist Nimah Nawwab will present a lecture titled “Women and the Arab Spring” on Wed. May 16, 2012 as part of the East-West Perspectives lecture series in the Fourth Floor Auditorium at East-West University, 816 S. Michigan Ave., in Chicago. The event begins with a reception at 6:30 p.m. followed by the lecture at 7:00 p.m. Admission is free.
Descended from a long line of Saudi scholars, Nimah Ismail Nawwab is an internationally-published best-selling poet, editor, writer, photographer, and filmmaker. She is actively involved with women and youth empowerment, earning the title “The Voice for Arab Women and Youth.” Ms. Nawwab is focused on leadership, the arts and humanitarian issues as she seeks to build global bridges of understanding.
Ms. Nawwab's best-selling book and work have been featured in numerous media outlets including BBC World News, Newsweek International, MSNBC, the Japanese Yomiuri Shimbum, GEO France, India’s Asian Age, Malaysia’s Berita Harian, Britain’s Hello magazine, as well as numerous Arabic media. Nominated as the first Saudi female Young Global Leader of the Young Global Leaders Forum in affiliation with The World Economic Forum in 2005, she has actively taken part as a keynote speaker and panelist at several WEF Forums over the past five years. She holds an executive MBA from the Harvard Kennedy School of Government in Leadership and Public Policy for the 21st Century.
East-West Perspectives is a series of monthly lectures hosted by East-West University. All events are free, and are held on the third Tuesday of every month from January to March, October and November. The April and May events are held on the third Wednesday of the month.
