SHEDD SCIENTIST DISCUSSES SEAFOOD SUSTAINABILITY
Ms. Michelle Jost speaks at Perspectives Lecture Series at East-West
CHICAGO-- (Oct. 23, 2007) Shedd Aquarium Director of Sustainable Practices Michelle Jost will speak about the ocean health in a lecture entitled “Fish in the Ocean, Fish on our Plates: Sustainable Seafood and Ocean Health” on Tue., Jan. 19, 2010 in the Fourth Floor Auditorium at East-West University, 816 S. Michigan Ave. in Chicago. The free event, part of the East-West Perspectives lecture series, will begin at 7:00 p.m., preceded by a reception at 6:30 p.m.
Ms. Michelle Jost oversees the Right Bite seafood awareness program and sustainability initiatives at the Joseph G. Shedd Aquarium in Chicago. As Chair of the Aquarium and Zoo Association’s Green Scientific Advisory Group and member of the Conservation Alliance for Sustainable Seafood’s Communications Committee, Ms. Jost keeps track of the best practices for maintaining the health of the world’s aquatic life and ecosystems.
Before joining the Shedd team, Ms. Jost worked closely with scientists worldwide to develop volunteer-based research expeditions for the international non-profit, Earthwatch Institute. While with Earthwatch, she traveled to Cameroon, Trinidad, and Mexico to assist with field research on community health, Leatherback sea turtles, and whale sharks, respectively. Michelle also spent time with Walt Disney World’s Animal Kingdom, New England Aquarium, and Museum of Science-Boston as a conservation educator.
Ms. Jost graduated with honors from University of Wisconsin-Madison with a degree in Conservation and is currently pursuing a Masters in Zoology from Miami University of Ohio.
East-West Perspectives is a series of monthly lectures hosted by East-West University. All events are free, and held on the third Tuesday of every month from January to March, October and November. The April and May events are held on the third Wednesday of the month.
