PERSPECTIVES ON GREEN URBAN TRANSPORTATION

Jacky Grimshaw shares vision for sustainable transportation in Chicago

CHICAGO--  (Feb. 23, 2010)  Center for Neighborhood Technology Vice President of Policy Jacky Grimshaw will present a lecture entitled “Feet and Bikes and Trains, Oh My!  Following the Green Brick Road!” at 7:00 p.m. on Tue., March 16, 2010 in the Fourth Floor Auditorium at East-West University, 816 S. Michigan Ave. in Chicago.  The free event, part of the East-West Perspectives lecture series, is open to the public and will be preceded by a reception at 6:30 p.m.

Ms. Grimshaw joined CNT in 1992 and works on public policy advocacy, transportation research, public participation tool development, GIS mapping, and community economic development.  She created and led CNT’s transportation and air quality programs, and led the organization’s fight for mass transit reform in the Chicago region.

Ms. Grimshaw serves on numerous boards, including: Congress for New Urbanism, Chicago Transit Authority and CTA’s Citizens Advisory board, RTA Strategic Plan Advisory Committee, Smart Growth Network, and the National Academy of Sciences’ Transportation Research Board’s Committees on Women’s Issues in Transportation and Environmental Justice. She was a member of the Energy and Transportation Task Force of the President’s Council on Sustainable Development, Renew America-Renew the Earth and Smart Growth America Boards, Surface Transportation Policy Partnership Steering Committee, and has been a longtime activist for social justice.

Prior to CNT, Ms. Grimshaw was political advisor for the late Mayor Harold Washington and Director of the Mayor’s Office of Intergovernmental Affairs, Deputy City Treasurer and talk show host for the Chicago NPR and ABC affiliates, and columnist for Crain’s Chicago Business. Jacky has completed the M.A. in Public Policy requirements at Governors State University and holds a B.S. in Biology from Marquette University in Milwaukee.

East-West Perspectives is a series of monthly lectures hosted by East-West University.  All events are free, and held on the third Tuesday of every month from January to March, October and November.  The April and May events are held on the third Wednesday of the month.
